My 15 year old son wants to do some modelling as a way to earn a bit of extra money. We live in the North West.
Has anyone else had any experience of this, can give us any advice or recommend any reputable agencies?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi I did catalogue modelling when I was 16 but one of my relatives was a dress designer which is how I got into the modelling lark in the first place. A good agency will not make you pay for your portfolio, they will do it for you.
Unfortunately, I have no idea of the various agencies in the North West. Maybe you could try contacting some of the London ones to see if they have branches near you e.g. Storm (sorry but I can't think of any more).

Hi, just be careful their are many agencies out there that are out to get your money! Usually needs a portfolio (photos) but some companies don't require this as they will complete there own photos.
Usually if you do find a reputable company, there may be a registration fee for the modelling agency, but have a look around and google some companys and review them online.
Good luck with this, but be extremely careful, especially your son getting his hopes up etc then being let down, its a difficult business to break, can be emotional too.
Other than that could he get some other kind of job for some extra spending moey??0 -
Thank you Horace and Shelene. I've heard of Storm so I'll look into them.
He's in his GCSE year at the moment so I don't want him doing anything regular like a paper round as it might affect his school work.
I saw an article on AOL the other day about other ways for under-16s to earn a bit of cash, and modelling was one of the ideas. As he's quite a handsome lad I thought it might be a possibility- and he seems quite keen too! Though as you rightly say, it will be more difficult to get into than he probably thinks.0 -
I used to model, but for lads magazines, when I was at uni and it gave me some great extra money
I had the time to do it back then.
I would recommend taking some snaps at home, full length from the front, full length from the side and head shot. They don't need to be professional, agencies prefer snapshots because they can see the real person.
I found emailing was always fine. Send all his measurements too. If they like him, they'll ask for you to come and see them and take test shots.
If he gets on any books, they'll send you to have professional ones done then.0 -
I am also interested in this for my DD2, has anyone got a list of good companies to send these photos to?0

A Google search will throw up a few, I'd never pay to join an agency, if they want me on their books then I don't expect to have to pay.
