We have two birthdays, Christmas and are heading up to Scotland on the 27th, where we will be partly self-catering ...

Thursday: hubby at his work xmas dinner, carbonara using leftover gammon from last weekend for the rest of us
Friday: Daughter's 7th birthday, she gets to choose the meal: lasagne and mini pineapple upside down cakes with cream or custard [freeze half of the ragu, to take to Scotland to have with spaghetti for first meal, will defrost in the car!]
    Saturday: roast chicken, roast veg
Sunday: stir-fried rice with leftover chicken & prawns [freeze rest of chicken]
Monday: Hubby's birthday, so this time he gets to choose: beef casserole with dumplings, sherry trifle (for us), ordinary trifle (for children)
Tuesday: leftover beef casserole turned into a pie of some kind
Wednesday: snacky platter including gravadlax, interesting cold meats, salad, garlic prawns, wraps [cos I ordered stuff for Thursday and then realised it was too much food]
Thursday: blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and bacon for brunch, turkey crown with hm chestnut stuffing, little sausages, roast potatoes & parsnips, carrots, sprouts, sherry gravy, christmas pudding
Friday: leftover turkey with gravy, mashed potato and whatever veg is still around, the other christmas pudding
    Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600
    Overpayments to date: £3000
    June grocery challenge: 400/600
  • Hello!
My clan descend on us on Xmas Eve for 3 days so the plan is to use stuff up and make soem room between now and then.
The Christmas food is all bought (apart from the fresh that has to be bought Tuesday/Xmas Eve) and stored in various hiding places around the house - just have to remember where it all is!

    So this week's plan is....
    • Thursday - I'm out with work on our Xmas Indian/booze up, OH having gnocchi, chicken and pesto
    • Friday - meatfree kiev and chips/wedges for me, OH having big meal in work so just something light for tea
    • Saturday - fish and chips from the freezer or jacket spuds and something
    • Sunday - tuna pasta bake and garlic bread
    • Monday - my birthday - out for a meal in a lovely vegetarian restaurant
    • Tuesday -
    • Xmas Eve - corned beef pie (HM by Mam), beans and veg (nice plain food before the Xmas excesses!)
    • Xmas Day - lunch out with plenty of rubbish for later!
    Have a good festive period
See you after Xmas - all fat and bloated no doubt!

Not meal planning this coming week, other than to check the day before what needs using up in fridge, what needs taking out freezer, what needs preparing day before etc! Will be having a relaxed food week. Still got some of the budget money left in my purse :) so we are not over spending, thankfully. Just been setting next years budget and will get back to meal planning then (will also now start on Thurs so that the days coincide with this thread better!).
Don't over indulge (or if you do then enjoy it!).
x Happy Christmas ladies (and gents!).
x Have a lovely birthday rachel.

Ooh I like this thread - just down my street!
Thurs: lamb in red wine sauce (from a massive slow cooker batch done last week and frozen)
Fri: chicken in tomato, pepper and onion sauce (with spare for the freezer)
    Sat: roast chicken, spuds, veg,
Sun: rack of bbq ribs, loaded jacket spuds
Mon: Chicken in a garlic, lemon and saffron sauce (wsftf)
Tue: Meatloaf with a tangy mango/tomato sauce
Wed: toasted cheese and ham sarnies (light eating pre Xmas overload!)
Xmas lunch: gammon, roasters, parsnips, chestnut stuffing
Xmas dinner: HM pate, leftover gammon, HM bread, chutney

For those lacking in inspiration for recipe ideas, suggest Recipezaar.com - may be american but some great stuff and we eat far more 'proper' meals since finding it. They also do an OAMC section (Once A Month Cooking) for those who want to cook big and then freeze.
  • Aaaaand it's taken me ages to get around to this this week. Work has been manic, as have last minute preparations at home for Christmas, etc. Still, Friday night now and able to (finally) make a post or two! Yay! So here goes...

Friday - pizza (using up stuff in freezer for a new start in the New Year)
Saturday - Christmas Party (buffet will be provided, yay!)
Sunday - Freezer Surprise, probably Broke-Burger Mountain
    Monday - Spicy Sausage Pasta
Tuesday - Jacket Potatoes with Melee Beans
Christmas Eve - At Mum's (bless 'Er!)
Christmas Day - Snack food all day, including a boiled ham so plenty of leftovers for ages!
Boxing Day - Leftovers, perhaps heated up into Christmassy Toasted Sandwiches (chunky bits of cooked ham, cheese, herbs, etc done in a sandwich toaster. I'd actually love to experiment with a Brie and Cranberry toastie ... mmm

    Merry Christmas, everyone!!
