Does anyone know how to convert normal cooking times to pressure cooker cooking times please?
I found a recipe for christmas pudding that says i should steam the 1.2litre/2 pint pudding for 4 hours or 2 hours for 600ml/1 pint puddings or it suggests pressure cooking to save time & fuel. I have a pressure cooker but no instruction book (a prestige one 30 years old inherited from a long departed old relative).
Can anyone help me with pressure cooking timings please?

Hi Zziggi,
I'm not much of a pressure cooker cook to be honest, but this site seems useful for cooking times.
Apparently, pressure cookers cook in a third of the usual cooking time. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I have the instruction booklet to an old (25 year-old) Prestige pc - and the old pc to go with it!
Weights are used instead of litres etc. Below, the figures are for weight of mixture/amount of water(boiling)/steaming time (no weight on pc)/cooking time at H pressure/ reheating time at H pressure.
1lb/ 2.25 pints/ 15 mins/ 1hr 45 mins/ 20 mins.
1.5lb/ 3 pts/ 20 mins/ 2hrs 30 mins/ 30 mins.
2lb/ 3.5 pts/ 30 mins/ 3hrs/ 30 mins.
Take care during steaming that you don't lose too much water as that could result in the pc boiling dry - I remember my Mum "topping it up" with boiling water before going on to the main cooking time.
You can cook 2 x 1lb puddings with the trivet between the two, if space allows.
Reduce pressure SLOWLY - on mine that means you just leave it for the steam to subside, don't plunge it into cold water!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
Hmm, not sure about that, I cook haricot beans in 5 minutes, but they wouldn't cook in the traditional way in 15 mins!
I have now checked in my new and old pressure cooker boooks. THey both say to time according to weight of pudding. For a 1lb pud it advises 20 minutes pre-steaming followed by 1 3/4 hours at 15lb pressure. For a 2lb pud it says 30 mins pre-steaming and 3 hourss at 15lb pressure.
When you come to Christmas Day, they take 20/30 minutes respectively at 15lb pressure. Stand the basin on a trivet. have 2 1/ pt water in with the 1lb size and 3 1/4 pt water in with the 2lb size.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
