Do Sainsbury's know what they're doing?

in Credit cards
I can't believe Sainsbury's CC. About 9 months ago they chopped my credit limit down to a few hundred pounds more than I owed them (all on LOB deals). A couple of months later, a guy from them phoned me up to ask if I wanted to do a BT to Sainsbury's at a good rate (more LOB). I explained to him that I did want to transfer a large chunk but that I couldn't because they had chopped my limit. Since then, as I have paid chunks off and had spare credit they have been writing to me with CC cheques for decent LOB deals. Thank you very much thought I and promptly switched some more CC debt to them from higher rate cards. Today I got a letter saying that they are chopping my limit again.
Because I'm not desparate for more credit, I actually am finding it quite funny. They've only chopped £300 off it this time and there is still about £900 if I need to help myself to any more of their deals.
Can anyone shed any light on this stuff? I understand reducing a credit limit. I also understand offering repeated LOB deals at decent rates. What I don't understand is mixing these two things every few months because they seem to be giving opposite messages.

Are they run by Barclaycard by any chance? See my post below - it seems they're reducing limits for lots of customers, they told me it's about risk assessment. I think it's more like, they want to make a fortune in £12 overlimit fees from customers who are in debt and can't pay them back. :rolleyes:DFW Official Nerd Club #1114
