Buying a dishwasher

We are going out to buy a dishwasher this afternoon so I was hoping someone "in the know" could give me a few "do's & don'ts" that will help me make a better choice. I am afraid that it has to be a slimline model though. Any pointers?

A bit late I know - We have a Bosch slimline, got it just over 2 years ago and it has been faultless - bosch come (or did) with a 2 yr guarentee. It washes as good now as it did the first day we had it and it gets used twice a day. Other good thing is the lights to tell you when the salt and rinse aid are low. I have had other makes in the past and for the money this one has been excellent value.

Went for a Hoover from Currys in the end. It was advertised at £199 instore but I knew it was cheaper online so I asked about dropping the price. She said no problems. It has a concealed element, salt indicator and some other indicator, cant remember what it was for now.
Unfortunatly they didnt have any to take away there and then so we have arranged to pick up from the store in about 5 days time.
We went with the PAYG coverplan at £2.49 a month. I thought this was quite cheap and it can be cancelled anytime I want to.
