Tomato stain on plastic bowl

Hi
Could any one help me out? I bought a set of lock and lock food storage tubs so I can cook double and freeze, save unsed food etc in order to save some cash and time.
Used it the other day to store, freeze and the defrost in microwave but now it has a horrid orange line arround the bottom that wont scrub off (I was using tomato sause btw). Is there any fab tips with lemon or vinegar that will work to get rid of it?
Thanks

I remember when I was introducing solids to my dd that tomatoes used to stain everything in sight!

I used Milton when desperate... try bleach!

    Good luck!

Loads of my plastic bowls are tomato stained, and so are some of my clothes, I'm a sloppy cook.

I just scrub 'em, then hope the colour doesn't mean everything will be tomato flavoured.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Not sure if this will work, but you can get marks of plastic shower curtains with white vinegar, maybe soak the bowl in the vinegar and then wash, might work!!!

    Hello:wave:

Try putting some veg oil on a piece kitchen towel and wiping over the stain.
I know this works for carrot stains on plastic bowls etc but not sure about tomato stains.

All I can say is that nearly all my plastic bowls are stained pinky or orange. It's either tomatoes or just going in the DW. I've never found anything that takes out the red stain after you've stored something tomato based. When I get new ones, I just try and use the old ones when storing left over bol sauce or chilli. Sorry.
  • I think you might be struggling here, tomato is a bit acidic and gets into the plastic, all I can find is that water as hot as possible and oxyclean might help and so does sunlight! Other than that I've no real idea, most of my plastics are orange or pink now too.

edit :- Found some information, plastic is porous so the stain is actually in the plastic, strong bleach may help, denture tablets help, sunlight comes up a lot and to prevent it happening again wipe the inside of the container with cooking oil before use, also if you use your microwave with any plastic and tomato sauce forget it you have pink bowls forever.

i discovered this by accident a few years ago.

i had microwaved something tomato in a plastic jug and it turned it orangey in colour. it would not shift. anyway after loads of cleaning i gave up. i then needed the jug to heat some milk in and i filled it with milk and stuck it in microwave for about 3 mins. when i got it out the milk was slightly orangey but the jug was clean. i don't know how or why this worked but it did. so maybe it worth a try for you.

    i hope this helps.
