All over Europe - large lumps of new shiny metal are significantly less popular than they used to be. Figures particularly bad in Ireland and Spain, but the UK's sales fell faster than the EU average:
European new car sales dropped by 25.8% in November as the economic downturn continued to hit the industry.
The European carmakers' association, Acea, said it was the biggest fall in new car sales since 1999 - and the seventh monthly fall in a row.
Ireland was worst hit, with a 55.9% fall, while Spain's sales fell 49.6%.
Many companies have cut output to cope with the downturn. This week, Seat and Volvo became the latest firms to announce temporary production halts.
Struggling manufacturers
In Western Europe, registrations were down 26% from a year ago to a total of 854,698 new vehicles in November.
Acea said about a million fewer cars were registered in Western Europe in the period from January to November.
The body's figures said that November sales were down by 36.8% in the UK, by 29.5% in Italy, by 17.7% in Germany, and by 14.1% in France.

...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

This has obviously ben playing on my mind th last few weeks. Here's the thing, a huge amount of it is of course th economy, but I think there ARE people lik me, hoping technology reachs the retail point soon and that cars in th current form are so poorly future proofed so as to be a poor investment. I flt this way in the boom, I feel this way in th bust.
Regretfully, a car is a vital part of my life. We are and hop to remain a on car family, although it could be argued the greenr route might be a two car family, with one less used large car and one more used small/green car. Where as looking last time ther was a car that suited my neede well on the arket I just feel this is not met currently. Having dished out mor than my car is worth in th last coupl of months to keep it on th road I am resigned that it is likly to ned rplacing, not a new MOT, at around this time next year and that my decision to rpair not replace has been a poor financial one, but the alternative was not clear, nor does it seem from talking to the car dealers, that the next 'new models' fill the gap in the market either.0 -
Can't you fix the "e" on your keyboard?
We could have a whip round for you if you like?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I presume that means that used car prices will stay stronger in times to come?
Well not big 4 wheel drive thingys, although I understand that some of the tax implications have been put on hold. I don't know the details.

I hope it gets worse for the rip off on rubbish cars. Bring them back down to earth with a bang and hopefully knock some sense into them! I want an electric green car but I cannot get one in my area.0 -

Regretfully, my keyboard works, but my brain doesn't. If you can fix that for me though I'd be very grateful.0 -
I think that a lot of what we are seeing in the economy as a whole, not just the car industry is a lack of mew.
I don't think it can be underestimated how much this type of thing fuelled peoples lifestyles.0 -
