UK'er returning to UK after long absence

Have a mate returning after a 12 year stint abroad, they are staying at mine in a couple of days on return but need to arrange a basic bank a/c ( hopefully a debit card with Clydesdale Readycash )

they have their UK passport - its a new one a few months old sent to Brit Embassy for collection, no driving licence & nothing as proof of address, any ideas what bank will except that they can set up ?
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)

I know Barclays will take just a passport, as will Lloyds. I would have thought most of the big five would, to be honest.

    Yes, that's the one.

Any reason he's going or a basic account? I imagine he could have a regular current account if he wanted - it might be useful having cheques if he's moving back.

  • Maybe try Co-op Cashminder for `basic account`....not dependant on credit check...They will ask for ID...passport will do & there is electron card, telephone & online banking as well.

    HTH
    Angex

Edit...also can be set up over telephone & just pop to branch to evidence ID.

Thanks BM, I assumed as they have no credit file or proof of address B would only offer a basic, so they should just apply for a regular current a/c then? im guessing if they are declined they will be offered Basic with Connect ?

They require a debit card but not Solo/Electron ( which Wool used to offer - withdrawn ) but not a cheque book as a priority, but if you think a B current a/c is better to apply for I will get them to do that - it should help build them a credit file more than a basic a/c would I guess ?
