I can't get this to work? Shipping still shows when I add the computer to the basket?

Hmm, it's working now, but the prices seem to have mysteriously gone up by £40 overnight:rolleyes:.

Not really bargains - just the usual Dell dodgy marketing.

    That's a Pentium 4 computer with a 15" Flat screen moniter.

    Hi all
I am thinking of buying the D01117 system and need some help please.
I want the computer for my son but need to know will i have to add a sound card and speakers to this system for him to play some older pc games on it like soldier of fortune ect, ps will it let him play this game with the graphics it has?.
    Thanks in advance

Won't need a sound card as on-board sound will be fine, but you will need to buy some speakers - call it an extra tenner. Video will be OK for older games but for anything more recent, or with serious 3D you might have to add a PCI graphics card which are getting harder to find - budget another £40 if you want to add this.
Personally I think the D01117 is a pretty good basic machine considering it is £289 delivered and has a 15" TFT screen.
Don't forget to change to the optical mouse which costs no more - the ball mouse is such junk I threw mine away the last time I bought one.

I just bought a new Dell Dimension, not knowing much about computer, I paid £17.75 for an integrated sound blaster. Now reading your post, I realise there was no need for it as I do not play game,s I thought it would be better for sound an I also bought some speakers and I find I could have used my old Tiny ones which seem to be of better quality. If I understand correctly, an on board sound card comes with a computer as basis!! I asked CS and she said if I am going to lilsten to music and watch DVD, I will need it.

Then she lied! You only really need a sound card if you want to listen on a home entertainment (i.e. 5.1 speaker sound system).

  • If a basic set of speakers are required have a look at the following link for a pair of Creative speakers at PC World for £6.99 (instore price £19.99).

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0206192555.1137322569@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccfaddgkfdkjelcflgceggdhhmdfhn.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=454697&category_oid=

Can be reserved for instore pick up at the online price, I got a pair ~6 months ago when the £280 Dell offer was on and very nice little speakers they are for the money.
