DFS VAT invoice

We bought our sofa from DFS in October at 17.5% VAT rate. It was delivered in December and we got the invoice yesterday. They're VAT rate was now 15% now but the total amount was still the same. We were confused and realised they had adjusted the original prices of the sofas on the invoice so the totals would still be the same. Is this legal because they could be keeping the 2.5% difference surely?

Yes, quite legal. They gave you a price, not a price plus VAT, so they have chosen to pocket the difference. You could try to haggle with them and for goodwill, they may refund, but they are not obliged to do so. I am surprised that a large coy, like DFS would do this but they are not in fine fettle themselves.
