Hi,
I was just wondering if someone could please enlighten me about the ff issues:
1, Is maternity pay taxable?
2, If no, then prior to proceeding on maternity leave if one has not earned up to the personal allowance limit can tax be claimed back?
Thanks in advance for your help.

1, Statutory maternity pay (SMP) is taxable.
Maternity allowance is not taxable.
2, If you are in employment then I would expect your employer to pay any tax rebate if it was due on your normal payday. If you are not on a cumulative tax code then this will not happen so it would be as well to get your tax code sorted out if this is the case.
If you are not in employment and do not expect to have taxable income before April 5 next year you can send your P45 with a P50 to the tax office to get a rebate if due.
