Need some inspiration.......ok just need some help!

Hi All

Hope you can help me. DH was complaining that there is nothing 'nice' to eat in our house. By nice he means cakes or biscuits or something naughty! We are on a seriously tight budget at the minute.........actually that is an understatement, we just dont have any money! Soooooo I have decided that I will try my hand at some home baking! lol

I have made twinks hobnobs before which worked well so going to make some of these. We also have the following ingredients -

Eggs
Flour (sr and plain)
Sugar
Icing sugar
Coconut
Chocolate chips
Milk
Condensed Milk
Syrup
Honey
Lots of little edible decorations

Has anyone any ideas what I could make? I can use the search facility to look for specific recipies.........just dont know what I can make with all of the above.

All suggestions welcome! Thanks xoxox
Its hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........

People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!

Search for Bounty Balls, I think you have all the things there apart from possibly the choclate to dip them in (I just buy the cheapest supermarket chocolate).

If you can buy some really cheap marg (I use Netto's at 25p a tub for baking when skint) you could make loads of cakes, buns, muffins, jam tarts, mincemeat tarts, treacle tarts - just pastry, breadcrumbs & golden syrup - and put some chocolate chips in some, icing on others etc. Another good site to look at is the Be-Ro one www.be-ro.co.uk full of easy bakes.

I'll happily post some recipes for you if you need them. Have you thought about coating some of Twinks hobnobs with melted chocolate? Although it'd probably make them disappear even quicker though :rotfl:

Good luck - your kitchen will smell fab!

  • Syrup Loaf

Warm 2tbsp syrup with 1/4 pint milk

sift 4oz s/r flour with 1/2 tsp bicarb and pinch of salt

Mix these two concoctions together and chuck in some chocolate chips/raisins/ whatever you fancy

bake at about 180 for about 30 mins or until it looks done ;)

this is not a fluffy victoria sponge type dealy, its quite solid, i like it though :)

if you have a few pounds to spare get margeurite pattens "We'll eat again", I've baked a lot of stuff from there and it's not bad especially if you liven it up with bits you might have in store, like the chocolate chips. happy baking!

    Hi

Do you have any margerine or oil?

The basic cake recipe is equal quantities eggs, SR flour, sugar and fat. For a short life version, chuck in a bowl and beat until creamy. For a longer and lighter version, beat the fat and sugar until creamy and then add the eggs and flour alternately. if it curdles, add more flour and beat well. Minimum is really 2 eggs worth.

You could split the mixture and add coconut to some, choc chips to some and leave some plain, do cup cakes and make icing for some with decs or coconut on top.

If you have oats anywhere, flapjack is sugar/syrup, fat or oil and oats.

Find a load of recipes and do one baking batch, to save fuel.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
