give to a charity shop then.. someone might want them and they can get some money out of it

Depends on how good the are, I'm not making a special trip to my charity shop if they are so lame that they'd be lucky to get a few pence for them.

Well if anyone doesnt like there's ill pinch them. Stick them in some see through plastic baubles, thicken them with some extra card... Loads of stuff you can do with them. People dont complain when the kids come home with the xmas tree decorations made out of that blooming sugar paper and covered in glitter. I hate sugar paper... grrr

that's because their kids made them, so crappiness is a lot more acceptable and off-set. I'm not expecting anything fantastic for free, but I'm certainly not going to use them if they are a bit cruddy. I'd offer them to other forumites, but I'd end up out of pocket so I don't see the point. As for giving them to a charity shop, they can forget it, I know that a large amount of donated items end up in the bin, even perfectly good stuff, if they don't think that it will sell, but that decision is left up to a gaggle of old biddies.

Zen that wasnt directed at you mate, it was just a general comment. The standard you expect for free is probably on par with the standard of the sugar paper supporting a ton of glitter, 100 sequins and a whole pile of pom poms.

My comment was more about the quality of the card used than the actual pictures etc, hence my stick em in see through plastic baubles.

I used to volunteer in a charity shop, and I'm certainly not an old biddy. Neither is the manager who worked there when I did (and who still works there). I can assure you that we only binned items that were broken and unsaleable (i.e.the sort of stuff normal people wouldn't have considered 'donating' but that we were unlucky enough to receive). Some people do seem to think charity shops should be grateful for any old thing - if it's broken in sixteen places and smells funny, I can assure you, no thanks are due!

Any clothes that were unwearable (i.e. beyond repair) were sold as rags. Anything that was in good nick but we couldn't sell, was passed on to a charity shop in a different area.

I can assure you, charity shops do not throw out things for the fun of it! They only bin genuine junk!

Great to hear you're getting the decorations ready for dispatch, Francesca. Look forward to seeing what they look like and hanging them up!
  • Thank you Francesca - hope you have a lovely Christmas too :)
