Husband redundant - should we both claim jsa?

Hi, my husband is being made redundant with effect from 31 Jan, no redundancy pay as he will only have worked for them for 23 months.
I gave up work just over 8 years ago, having worked and paid ni contributions for 5 years prior and receiving homecarers ni credit for the last 8 years (2 kids, aged 8 & 6).
Our savings are about £15k as we have an interest only offset mortage of £75k and savings is how we were planning to pay it off.
When my husband signs on for contributions JSA would we get any extra if I also sign on? It would be genuine as frankly at least one of us would need to work. Or would I better to wait until his contributions jsa runs out in 6 months time?
Just looking for a bit of guidance as the net has a wealth of vague info and the last time hubby was made redundant the job centre was less than helpful.

The contributions based claim would pay out for both of you. Because of the savings, you're unlikely to get anything when the 6 months is up and it goes to income based but hopefully, he'll be working again by then.0
