You're classed as part-time staff and entitled to holidays like anyone else. It's often worth speaking to the manager and saying what nights you can work and asking if they have anything available for those nights?Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

TPAOY wrote:Thanks for the replies. Work between approx 9:30 (time I get after dropping son off at school) and any time up to 19:00 five days a week. Have to get employers permission to do extra work so they'll know I've got problems
And how old is your son? If he can get a paper round or something like that, would that help? And is your childcare sorted, or will you incur extra costs with that which would cancel out the extra earnings?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
It is flexitime - actual hours I need to do are 35 a week, but do more to build up enough time for time off to help looking after son.
I'm on just over £30K at the moment, so it isn't too badly paid.
Son is only 7 so a long way to go yet before after school care etc is finished.0 -
When I worked for Asda I did friday night 11pm until 7am the shop was open as it was a 24 hour. And on a saturday night from 10pm when it shut until 6am.
We where lucky as they there desperate for staff on friday and saturday nights because no one wants to work it.
Both me and my husband both worked full time jobs as well. It was a killer and we had no social life we did this for 8 months. Until we felt that are money situation was under control.
The min contract at the time I did this 5 years ago was 15 hours but they let us fudge it because no wanted to work the nights we did. Some of the other staff where not very happy as they had to work min of 3 nights a week. But they did not have full time jobs paying jobs like we did. They did have a full time job it was called being a parent.
Also after 12 weeks for us we got a staff discount card which meant 10% off our shopping so that was handy as we shopped after we came off shift on a saturday morning.
wish you all the best. But be aware you if you think you are tired know you will be after doing this.
Yours

Do a bit of computer repair work on the side. Nothing to do with my job. Can make about £30 usually but just haven't managed to get enough in. Only so many people at work, friends and neighbours.
If I could do this instead with sufficient demand, I'd be really busy, but getting money in and also be at home. Not sure of the moral or legal aspects, but I haven't told Inland Revenue anything about this and don't know if I would need to which would be a help.
Anyone got any experience or ideas on this as a possible line?0 -

Have you tried advertising computer services in your local shops or paper? Personally I'd kill for someone who could work on mine for a reasonable price and convenient time (evenings and weekends)Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Anyone else had any experience of doing this? I'd love to do this as long as it didn't interfere with day job. Would I have to tell tax man about this, or does this only become applicable after a certain level?0

I did this years ago, I had a 36 hour/week job and I worked another 13 hours in Sainsbury's - Thursday evenings and all day Saturday. I took on the extra job because I had an overdraft to pay off.
I hated it, even though I was in the office (not sweeping floors) the work was mind numbingly easy and boring. There was all sorts of compulsory overtime that was never mentioned at interview - not even double pay! After five months I had paid off my debt and I walked out. I was there from about March to August, I hate to think how many hours I'd be forced to work in the Xmas holidays.
When I did this I was much younger, single and childless so I could deal with the 49 hour week. Today I don't think I could stand to go through all that again. I take my hat off to you if you do manage it, because it's darn hard work.0 -
You would have to let the tax man know I'm afraid...of any additional income. You would be taxed on any additional income, as your personal allowance is already used in your main job.Competition wins -
