    You need to seek advice as to whether they can legally do this. ACAS will be able to help you or your local CAB. Don't worry hun. It'll all work out in the end.

    Unfortunately in this case it is normally the union who are responsible.. for example if due to economic downturn the union on behalf of all the employees accepts a paycut to prevent redundancies etc.

    No, it is nothing to do with the economic downturn, and the unions rejected the deal. It was imposed anyway. In one council all employees had to sign their new contract or be sacked.

    Hmmm.... that doesn't sound right at all. Did you get advice on it at the time?

    Acas http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1461 ar the advice and arbitration service for employees and employers. They will tell you your rights they are a very good free service and very supportive.
