Gift for childminder??

Hi, just wondered if anyone had any ideas for a Christmas gift for a childminder.
She has my DD 2 days a week and does a fantastic job. I really don't want to do the whole box of chocs/bottle of wine as I'm sure other parents will do that anyway!
I had thought maybe cinema vouchers but as she has 3 kids+hubby that could work out rather expensive. We're only spending £20 each on parents & siblings. Thank goodness for my DS, at 4 months he will be quite happy with the knitted dinosaur and rubber giraffe I've bought him!
I'd be grateful for any ideas.

A nice potted poinsetta? (sp?)
A home made hamper of family friendly (rather than ultra luxury) items? Asda have a brilliant wicker laundry hamper for £4 that is perfect to stuff with a few boxes of biscuits, chocs etc.
Some nice costume jewellery in a posh looking organza bag?
A beauty salon voucher? (I did this recently for someone but because it wasn't 'wrap up able' I attached it to a helium balloon and wrapped it up in a big box full of shredded tissue paper)

My mum was a childminder until she retired recently due to her health. You're right, they do tend to end up with lots of wine and chocolates!
Some of her favourite presents have been:
Salon vouchers (good idea GemR)
Ornaments / vase
Nice gloves and pashmina/shawl thing
One family's dad was a Technology teacher and he made some nice wooden kitchen-y things. Of course if you're not good with a saw and hammer some shop bought kitchen things are just as good!

Hi i used to be a childminder and i was always grateful for chocolate - no i'm not overweight i'm a small size ten but running round after the kids required a decent stash of emergency chocolate in the kitchen for me to eat !!!!!
Salon vouchers are only good if you actually have time to go to the salon. but shop vouchers for a shop you know your minder uses are a good idea. - not a toy shop.

I'm a childminder, and I think it's lovely that you are getting her something - so few do these days.
I always love flowers, or a copy of the first school photo, or something home made - I spend a lot of time and effort helping the children make stuff for mums and dads and Nanny and Grandad, so to get a little extra effort like that back would be lovely. (That has never happened in 3 years!!!!!!)
My first ever contract always used to get me a huge bottle of Tia Maria - said I needed and deserved it after looking after her children!!!:p
Would love to know what you decide to do.0 -
I used to be a childminder too and the biscuits and choccy were always lovely to recieve but the homemade bits were and still are treasured.....
I'd steer clear of flowers and plants though - if anything like me, I had nowhere to put them whilst working with small kids."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
I gave my sons nursery workers a gift basket I'd made myself with smelly goodies and made them each an estra special personalised card. I love the idea of a movie night basket though, might do that for hubby this year0
