From salary to a price per job...help please

My husband has worked for his employer on a salary until now, and it was recently proposed that he go on to a reduced basic wage, topped up with a bonus, depending on the amount of work he does.
He was not happy with this, but knowing that the company was struggling, agreed in principle, once he had built up a round for himself, which we presumed would be after Christmas.
Nothing more was said, and today he has opened his wage slip for last week, only to find that he has been put on this new pricing structure without any further consultation!!
He was not told at the beginning of that week that his wages would be performance related, in fact, his employer has said nothing, just waited for him to open his wage slip!!!
So...is his employer allowed to change the terms of his contract without proper notification, and is there anything we can do about this situation? I am more than a little angry that he has chosen this week to do this, and not left it until DH has built up a decent round, and therefore potential wage, as agreed!!:mad:

He didn't agree...he said that he may be willing to agree in the future, when he had established a round, and therefore the chance of a regular wage, to which his employer said ok.
A week later, and with no further review, it was changed without him being informed, it was only when he opened his wage slip that he realised.0 -
tbh it sounds like verbal agreement to me and as soon as you agreed its reasonable for it to change.0

I note your words "MAY be willing to agree in the FUTURE". If those are indeed the exact words your O.H. used - then the employer has "pulled a fast one" and deliberately misinterpreted to suit themselves. I am rather concerned about nothing being in writing though.
I do still wonder if your O.H. could bring a grievance - imposition of changed terms and all that - as he didnt agree to this? Hopefully someone will come along soon who knows whats what about doing that.
I would think the best thing right now is for your O.H. to give a letter to his employer complaining that these paychanges have been imposed on him without agreement and requesting that matters be put right and his pay restored to normal and requesting payment of money owed to him. If he says nothing - then it will look like he has accepted this. He needs to make it clear and in writing pretty quickly that he definitely does NOT accept this. (Dont know what the time period is for registering his objection?)

Thanks for the replies.....he did go into the office and complain yesterday, and his boss said that he thought he had agreed to the new terms.....well he hadn't!!!:mad:
He also told his boss that he wasn't happy that his xmas holidays would be paid at the new rate, which would be about half what his salary was for holiday pay, when he had accrued them over the last year, whilst working at the old rate....and his boss has agreed to pay him his old salary over the xmas holidays......whew sorry, that sounds complicated doesn't it!!!!...............but could that be seen as an admission that these changes are unfair??....He doesn't want to upset him, and have him withdraw the offer of full pay over xmas!!0 -

Its a gesture by the boss, your OH should realise he could end up without a job if he kicks up a fuss as those who refuse to change are likely to head the exit queue0 -

Unfortunately its true, and its probably only going to make things worse. If he does do it, its worth documenting how its handled0
