If you are in any government position in one of the above jobs and have a uniform you are entitled to a "uniform cleaning allowance". You will however need to ring up your local tax office and inform them as your employer wont do it. I have done my job for 3 years and got £75 back tax. Your tax code will also change to reflect the cleaning allowance.

Just to add as well, this includes any job where the uniform is provided by your employer for the purpose of doing your job, providing you launder it yourself. So, this includes people who work in supermarkets, pilots, posties and most NHS jobs etc.
I did this last year and got 3 years back too with a tax code change!

I'm sure if you look back through the posts here or on the website there is a template letter that you can send to your tax office - that's what I did and it worked a treat!

Pay branch should normally do this for you anyway. But worth checking.
