I don't think you can put down the age of the first time buyer changing over the course purely down to inflated house prices.
30 years ago, in fact even 20 years ago, people were more likely to settle down and have children in their 20s rather than in their 30s. Sure, a lot of people would like to have their own little flat in their 20s but there isn't the same drive to buy as there is when people are married and have children.
I don't think that the reason that people get married later now is due to house prices either. It's just a change in the way people think - wanting to travel and experience life before settling down in most cases.0 -

I think that 30 years ago far fewer people (including couples, but especially singles) were buying houses in their twenties, or feeling they needed to do so at all costs, and that this should be their main ambition in life. Couples often lived in flats.0 -

don't take this the wrong way, but be thankful you have a house. i really want one, its all ive ever wanted. i must be one of the few people into interior design who lives in a box room! i'm 26 and had to move back with mum. the way things have been ever since i left college, means that although i thought as a kid, id be able to get a house just like everybody else has, i just can't. i don't think i'll earn enough until i'm in my 30s. fat chance. i'm living here with my bro and bros gf 23, and 24- cos they cant afford rental prices either. my bros gf has a dream too- to own her own home. i wish i had my own house.someday...
All those dreams can be dangerous and if you do not time it right could lead to your downfall..SOMETIMES renting your home from a bank is not the best thing in the world to do...and you do not own it until the mortgage is paid off...:oIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0
