    You do not mention the rate of interest against which you are making overpayments. I can understand the motivation to get rid of a mortgage but it may make some financial sense to fill a cash ISA (£3600 max per annum ) first, and then pay off the mortgage.
    If you have a low interest on the mortgage ( I'm tracking at 2.24% from Jan).Then it is easy to find and ISA to beat it. If you have a high interest rate then there may little choice but to overpay the mortgage as no ISA can beat it.

    I can only overpay by 12 monthly instalments of £500 a year as I'm with Nationwide. It made sense to fill an ISA. whilst overpaying the maximum allowed.

    I'm in a 3 year fix at 6.6%, so have little chance of beating that with savings.I spent the previous 2.5 years building up savings because the rates made it worth it versus my intial 4.3% fix.
