Hi, my mum recently bought a hoody from USC, which was paid for in cash.
She didnt realise it was one of the ones i already have, and she gave it to me as a gift
it still has the tag and price label on it, but she lost the reciept! can i return this??
the woman in store was most unhelpful!!

You have no right to return it if there's no fault with it.0

They are under no obligation to take it back but most store policies would at least give you store credit. Try speaking to a different SA.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0

thanks guys!THANK MEEE:j0 -
I would ask your mum to return it. Two reasons...first, it's a sad but true fact that older folk get more respect in shops than young people, and secondly because strictly speaking only the person who has purchased an item is entitled to return it.Val.0

i can ask her, fingers crossed!
the 1st girl i spoke to in the shop said it would be find to get somethin else, so spent ages pickin something, for the woman at the till to say no!THANK MEEE:j0 -
You are not legally entitled to anything without your proof of purchase, your receipt.
Many stores will do an exchange for the sake of good customer relations but it varies. I have worked for Top Shop, Miss Selfridge, Oasis and Next and they were usually very accommodating. The only time we really put our foot down and point blank refused was if we suspected it was acquired by dodgy means and they were a known shoplifter returning an item. Maybe some stores are just really using the law to their advantage and saying no receipt no refund and no exchange but as I said before for the sake of returning customer business it makes good business sense to allow an exchange for goods of equal value. The only time you'd lose out on this is if the top you are returning has gone on sale and you would only get an exchange to the current selling price.
Every store varies, but there's not much you can do unless you find a sympathetic sales assistant who will let you do an exchange. I've never worked for or shopped in USC so have no idea how strict they are.
Hassle your Mum to have another look for the receipt. If not take your Mum with you and ask to speak to a supervisor or a manager who may be more willing / have the authorisation to help you more. Explain you are a good customer and spend alot ofmoney in the store (doesn't have to be true), you already have the exact same top, your Mum got you this one as a gift but its the same and you'd be really happy just to exchange for something else in the store. Don't lose your temper if they don't play ball, just keep trying nicely and they might cave in!!!

You're not legally entitled to anything with the receipt either, not unless the item is faulty.bubblegumcola wrote: »You are not legally entitled to anything without your proof of purchase, your receipt.DMP Mutual Support Thread Member No 19017/05/08 - Total on DMP: £10025.7007/05/14 - Total on DMP: £1666.20 DFD: July 2017!!Baby Tomos born 5th June 2009 - 6lb 5oz :jWeight Loss Target - to lose 60.8lb by NYE 2015 - 37.6lb TO GO0
