'We party by the pool all summer'
BRACE YOURSELVES. TV PRESENTER ANTHEA TURNER’S ÜBER-STYLISH HOME IS SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO CAUSE ENVY
She’s the presenter of Perfect Housewife, so it’s only right that Anthea Turner, 48, should have the perfect home too.
Set among 50 acres of countryside near Godalming in Surrey, her four-bedroom house has a tennis court, library, wine cellar, stables, cinema and a swimming pool.
It’s a wonder she and her husband Grant Bovey, 47, ever leave.
“We spend a lot of time here in the orangery, especially in summer,” Anthea says.
“Grant’s children – Lily, 16, Amelia, 14, and Claudia, 11 – spend some of their school holidays here, and we all gravitate to this room.
"Us, the kids, the dogs and our friends.”
Despite being inundated by visitors, Anthea isn’t precious about her home.
“I like a room to be stylish but it must also be comfortable,” she says.
“I want my guests to come here and not have to tip-toe around.
“The floors are Italian limestone, the wicker sofas are covered in a polyester fabric and the cushions are faux suede, so everything is durable and can be easily cleaned.”
She adds: “It’s essential when our dogs, Buddy and Digger, are running around.”
Anthea’s equally smart with the gadgets in her home, hiding them away in storage units behind the bar in the orangery.
She admits: “I hate boys’ toys but Grant would love them to be on display.
"Putting them in the cupboards is a good compromise.”
Anthea’s book, How To Be The Perfect Housewife: Entertain In Style (Virgin Books, £12.99), is out now.
1. CERAMIC APPLE “I bought this from a shop in Cranleigh, a village near our house. I just thought it was so quirky and gave the room a splash of colour.”
2. SILVER DISH “This is a flame bowl. You take the top off and put a gel candle inside which burns and throws out a lovely, soft light.”
3. CANDLESTICKS “I love these old church-style candlesticks because they accentuate the rustic charm of the house, which was built at the turn of the last century.”
4. SCULPTURE “This was made by an up-and-coming Russian sculptor. It’s very unusual and always provides a talking point for our guests.”
ANTHEA STYLE TIPS
* When planning a room, think about who’ll use it and decorate accordingly. Use easily-cleaned fabrics and have plenty of storage.
* Before you buy a new sofa or chairs, think about having your old ones re-covered.
* Don’t try to be clever, keep it simple. Start with a neutral colour scheme then add splashes of different tones with ornaments and fabrics.0 -

Grossman: "So who lives in a house like this? David, it's over to you."
David "Err, no-one does now. It's been repossessed by the banks!"0 -
Anthea—who owns a £5 million estate in Surrey and a £5 million chateau in France—said: “We are in it like lots of other people in this country who have been bitten by economic circumstances.

He's exited bankruptcy now.
Daily Express: GRANT BOVEY’S BACK IN THE BLACK
ANTHEA Turner has revealed that her husband Grant Bovey is no longer bankrupt. The 49-year-old, who once owned a buy-to-let property empire worth £100million, ran into financial difficulties during the credit crunch and was ordered to pay debts of up to £50million.
He was declared bankrupt in March last year but Anthea tells Day & Night that he is finally back in the black.
“As of this week my husband is no longer bankrupt,” she says. “It has been a long struggle. We’ve had to sell off a few possessions but things are on track, thank goodness.”
The 50-year-old television presenter says Bovey has no plans to return to the property market.poppy100 -
They invested everything in high risk investments (property, businesses) and they lost the gamble? Unlucky. To have three businesses go t*its up rather suggests he is not particularly savvy.
They've got 2 houses apparently worth £10,000,000 between them and managed to take £1,200,000 out of a business apparently legally just before it went bust.
I'd say they know what they are doing.
Don't measure their success by the continuation of the businesses they run/ran.0 -
The house they "downsized" to was put on the market at the beginning of the year.

Not sure if they've sold it, or taken it off market.
At the time I suspected it up for sale due to a looming D-word..... can imagine Anthea getting stressed out with Bovey at home day in day out (even though its a big mansion).... and other stories in the past say the losses did cause them some strain in their relationship.
However seems they are past that, if Anthea really feels this way.“Its very hard to make any money from property at the moment so he won’t return to that but I know he’ll find some other venture soon. I have always worked. I love working and am happy to support him because he always bounces back.”0 -
Checkout a book called 'The millionaire Next Door'. It's a study of American millionaires and a key finding was that TRUE millionaires are risk averse, cautious, steady and stick to one thang.
It asserts that the odd high flying risk taker makes it big but these make up a small percentage of the millionaire community, but that we wrongly associate millionares with higher flying, big balls, over confident brashness because a few of these grab the headlines.
Indeed, the 20 year study found that the majoirty of true millionaires lived in nice but modest homes like Warren Buffet, but the would be millionaire lawyers that advise these millionaires lived in the very upscale neighbourhoods, saddled with debt and having a very high status lifesytle which sucked away all thier income so they never get to become true millionaires.
I can relate to this well, as I've long noticed the big brash clients with black Range Rovers and Rolex' tend not to be nearly as well off as one might imagine.
very true I suspect. It's not what you earn, it's what you spend that dictates how 'wealthy' you are!! I know lots of people who apparently earn quite large sums of money, but if an unexpected event happens like the car dies etc they always seem to need a loan!!0 -
I can't understand why people keep speaking about this housing crash that's supposed to have happened this week.
Hello, wake up. There hasn't been one. House prices are about the same if not more than the 2007 bench mark.
These two people gambled on the big time and lost. No big deal and their case and circumstances are a world away from what anyone on here or HPC will ever be in a position to have.
For everyone who will gloat remember this. Just one of the cars they are driving about it today is better than anything you will ever afford. The house they live in is out of your league and you will never own anything like it.
The resturant they go to tonight is too expensive for you and their holiday this year would be the trip of a lifetime for you.
They are still rich however you look at it.
They won't be flipping burgers like the HPC gang.We love Sarah O Grady0
