Possible Unfair Redundancy

Options
I work for a large company who are currently making job cuts. They have managed to get most of their redundancies voluntarily however they still need a couple more.

Myself and two other colleagues have been informed that one of us will be made redundant. We all work in similar admin rolls but management have said they will not be using a skills matrix to determine who goes as in their opinion our rolls are too diverse. I can't understand how they come to this conclusion as we all cover for each other during holidays and illness.

The other two positions to go will be determined using a skills matrix.

Are the company acting unfairly/illegally in not employing a skills matrix for us? Can anyone help?

What should we do if they go ahead with this plan?

Thanks

In its self, no. However any other method they use to decide must be non-discriminatory.
