You ask every one every time, or no one ever! You can't demand proof because you suspect someone is lying, it has to be 'policy', or this could lead to claims of victimisation.

You would have a point - if that was what I said.

BUT - what I actually said was for the EMPLOYEE themselves to OFFER proof that the time really was required for a funeral. There was no mention of the EMPLOYER asking for or demanding any proof.....
  • Could the funeral date not be changed?

Good lord hell no!!!! Why the hell should the OP change the date for a greedy corporate a$$hole who obviously has let power get to their head? I would be furious if I was you. I has a similar sitation last year and I made it quite clear that I would be in no fit state to work on that day and I WOULD NOT be working. I had given notice and that I would be contacting HR if this time was refused. In the end I got it. Fight for the time off-it's wrong to deny you of the last chance you have with your much loved relative. I really feel for you. Another example of corporate bull gone wrong which is why I am getting out of a profit making company. The OP's sitiation is completely unfair.

    Good luck sweetheart xx

What sort of shoe shop operates from 5am to 10pm and employs 150 people?

    How about Brantano?
  • It's not a shoe shop. It's a dept store. They need staff out of hours to move stock, put banners up etc.
