I also looked it up. It doesn't sound very pleasant but it puts itself right usually after about 12 weeks. It can be caused "by a bout of prolonged laughter" according to Wilkepedia.

So keep clear of the Crackers on Christmas Day!

Best wishes, though, and I hope it soon clears up.

I've had costochondritis, which some people say is the same, others say it's just very similar. I suffered for about three years, not very nice at all.

  • The medical profession are actually puzzled by this as I was told "uncommon" and that they really dont know what causes it they can only guess:confused:

For over a year they said it was growing pains, then I had a chest xray and they said my ribcage wasn't spaced how they'd have expected and that it was due to swelling - hence the diagnosis. I was about 12 when it started.

I have just been diagnosed with costochondritis which is same/similar depending on which site you view.
My GP refered me to hospital for xray and then to a rhumatology consultant, GP recommended steroid injections but consultant advised me against it unless I really wanted injections. Needless to say I declined and have strong painkillers for the pain. I find it gets worse if I get too much stress in my life but unavoidable sometimes.
Not a very nice condition though

I have suffered with this for a number of years and agree that stress can be a contributory factor.

Only recently did my GP diagnose the complaint and prsecribed Tramadol. I only take it on an ad hoc basis to help me sleep.

I too take tramadol, but on a daily basis for other pain related problems, but they dont seem to shift the pain from this, I use a heat pad over my ribs to help me sleep at night.
