Desperate Mother

I am new to this site so Hi to everyone on here.

I am currently going through a messy divorce seperated 18 months ago and got made redundant earlier this year. In that time I have managed to get myself into a complete mess with my finances. I have lots of debt and unpaid bills and at the moment the only money coming in is from the tax credits, CSA and child benefit.

I received a letter about how I need to go to court as someone is making a charge against my house. I am really worried that I am going to lose my house and I need it for my two small children.

I need to address this financial mess I'm in once and for all. I just want to be a good mum to my children and to be able to keep a roof over their heads.

If anyone can tell me who I need to speak to, contact or go to I would be very grateful.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your problems - and sorry I really have no idea but I didn't want to just read and run.

Some lovely people will be along soon to offer advice - you've made a start by asking for help.
I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

Hi Janerak and welcome to the board.

I am sorry to hear you have had a rough couple of years. Posting on here is definately a good idea as there is so much support and advice available to you.

I don't know much about charging orders but someone who does will hopefully be along shortly.

The best place to start on these boards is to post up an SOA (Statement of affairs) this is a list of all your incomings, outgoings and debts. It's a brilliant place to start. Here is a link for a SOA you can complete online and then post up on the board http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html.

Good luck with your journey and keep posting.

  • A charging order isn't a forced sale it simple means when and if you sell your house in future they will have to be paid before any money to yourself. A bit like another mortgage.
being in debt is no reflection on your parenting ability. You realise there is a problem and are sorting it out. You need to figure out how much you owe and who you owe it to. Then you need to do a SOA, think the sticky is still there.

  • Hi
If you have young children, it's unlikely a judge will grant a force of sale if you get a charging order. As BH sayd, it's a unsecured creditors way of securing the debt so they will get their share when you sell your property.

There are more knowledgeable people on here than me but I just wanted to say 'hi' and that you've come to the right place and keep posting.

For Details on a charging order and what it means, this link should help explain.

For the rest of your finances, i would suggest completing a SOA as mentioned above and then once you can see where you are with everything, either post it up here or contact one of the free debt charities.
