Golden Syrup instead of Black Treacle - help!

urgent help please!!!
I'm getting everything ready to make a Christmas cake for work for a charity guess the weight competition.
I had the ingredients delivered on Friday and I've just realised no black treacle was delivered
Is golden syrup an ok substitution? Or should I go shooting off to the shops??
The oven is heating and the fruit is soaked in brandy and this is a bit of a glitch!

Hi burlesque babe,
You could use golden syrup but black treacle is better as it will add a richness to the flavour and give the cake a darker colour that you won't get with golden syrup.

You're baking it today? I trust this cake is for Christmas 2009!
But as Pink says, you want to be using treacle, not syrup.0 -
I shot out and bought some, I didn't think it would be right using syrup.
Nope - it's for this Christmas! I was asked last week if I would make one, so it will have to be a bit 'unmatured'!!
grumble, grumble, asda delivery..........
