I think I finally get it.....!

I have been here a couple of times before about problem debt but after a month of concentrating on it I always have let things slip in the past and gone back to my old ways.

I finally think now that something has pinged inside me and I have realised that I dont actually need all the stuff that I constantly buy and that money is soooo much better off paid off debt. We would be almost £600 a month better off without debt repayments.

I have shuffled bank accounts round so that I can do the piggybank technique and once the new stuff comes through I will have.....

1 bank account for all income coming in and another bank account with same bank (a&L) will pay a certain amount into second account that will be untouched for DD's etc to come out.

Then what is left in original account has to cover food, petrol, nights out, cigarettes etc - once thats gone its gone, no more borrowing (cards cut up) and Im actually quite looking forward to the challenge of making sure that we can make that amount lasts us. Im even hoping to get really strict with myself and have some money in there at the end of the month to pay extra off debt.

All unexpected money and extras will now go straight off debt instead of me seeing it as extra opportunity to spend!

I now have 2 credit card and 1 loan (totalling 20k) whereas a few months ago had 6 credit cards with all different aprs and bank charges galore.

I REAAAAAAAAALY hope I can do this.

I have made further cut backs that I have resisted before (I used to send my son to nursery one day a week to give me some peace and him some time with friends even tho I work at home as a childminder so that is a saving of £112 a month and sky is coming out)

Thanks to everyone at this forum as reading the posts on here really put me in the correct mind set to do this!

Cross your fingers for me

Congrats on having the 'wake up moment'. It is a major turning point. Problem is once you start on MSE it is very hard to stop. My poor family get sick of hearing me go on about my lastest fantastic discovery.

Well done you for having your "lightbulb" moment and for getting over your bank phobia! I was the same with looking at my bank account now I check it every day and seem to be setting up yet another payment into savings accounts from the bits I've saved off getting cheaper insurance/utlities etc. I feel like I'm the one in charge now. Keep up the good work!

It is far more satisfying to pay off some debt, than to buy a "thing". Just imagine how satisfying it will be when you get to the stage where you can actually start to save a nice little nest-egg for yourself.
    All the best
