Charging Orders

    A charging order can be placed against a property you own - not rented accommodation like a council house. It may be that he had a charging order against his old property that was not paid as there was not enough equity. This debt would still require paying.

    If bailiffs were to visit SIL house, they would be able to enter through any unlocked door or window. If they visit don't let them in under ANY circumstances. If they were to gain entry, they would be able to return again and remove items found in the house that were of value. They may even remove your SIL items and she would need to prove that they were hers.

    Her partner should probably contact CCCS or nationaldebtline to see what steps he should be making to arrange repayment.
