What sort of flour have I got?

Hello everyone,
Two quick question from someone who mainly lurks:
I've found a big container of unidentified flour at the back of my cupboard. Is there any way of working out whether it is plain or self-raising (preferably without trying to bake something and failing!)
Also - I've unearthed some "strong wholemeal" flour - do you reckon I could use it 50:50 with white bread flour in my bread machine to make some pizza bases?
Can you tell I'm trying to have a pre-Christmas tidy-up/clear out/use up?!
Many thanks

Yes you can mix the strong wholemeal with the white bread flour, I do it all the time when making bread.I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

Use a tablespoon mixed with water to make a pancake, see if it bubbles up and has holes in.0

Oh thanks folks! I love this forum - people have so much knowledge that I could never find any other way!
A quick play with vinegar makes me suspect that I've got SR flour (and a belated examination of the container revealed the words "Self-raising flour" - but in this house the brown sugar is kept in a pot marked chutney so I don't trust the labels). I might make a wee pancake just to confirm what I've got.
Right - now I'm off to make some pizza bases to put in the freezer for lunches over the holidays.
Thanks again folks,
