  • Yep, small companies are the way to go, no question about that. That's what I did with my broadband in the end, and I have never looked back. It may be a bit more expensive, but it's really fast, it never drops and when you call there's actually someone on the phone!!! As for the utility companies, as long as there is not a regulator worth talking about, they will get away with murder and we won't be able to do anything about it :-(((((
  • Well I must be one of the only ones where things have gone right. I am sign online 4 and looking to change to sign online 14, as switch says I will save £260 per year.

Whenever they give me stupid DD estimates I just phone up and get them lowered to what suits me. Admitted I keep a close eye on usage and know what my DD should be to cover charges. I have dual fuel and am pleased with my npower service. However have only had to contact them on 3 occasions in 2 years, and that was just to lower the ridiculous estimate of a direct debit they wanted.

I did ask a while a go what people thought of this new tariff against my old one that no standing charges but nobody answered so gave up. However am thinking of taking the plunge again so will probably ask them to transfer me to this new tariff.

I have seen that they weight the usage of primary and secondary units more to winter.

I've just posted my own problems with scottish power, and did a uswitch comparison; according to uswitch my annual bill would be £1380 with npower compared to £1710 with scottish power.

Are they (npower) only difficult when you have to cancel with them? or are they difficult while you're using them?

I'm so undecided on whether to switch to them. I nearly switched 2 months ago, and never got around to it. The next cheapest is BG at £1400, then EON at £1475.

What to do, what to do...?
  • I would 100% recommend going with BG, it's only a £20 difference at the end of the day, and they are really much much better. Npower have been a nightmare all along, on every level, and I think they underestimate the cost when you want to switch and then you find that it's actually costing much much more than you thought (double in my case, but as I only ever got 1 bill for the whole year, I didn't know that). I can only tell you my experience and recommend you don't go with them, for £20 it's not worth the hassle. Good luck.
  • npower and scottish power are crap!!!!!!!
