You can just credit them to your account, you don't need to spend it straight away. Go to 'your account' then 'apply a gift certificate to your account'.

They probably allocate new ones each day until it reaches its limit, and then it restarts the next day. This is what I am guessing.

If you look under the post you just posted, it will tell you who has thanked you, if anyone has. I just thanked you so you can see. And you will see each post has a 'thanks' button. You press that to thank some1 if they have been helpful or you liked their post etc.
