Is it worth buying a case of wine from these online stores? Is it really better than visiting your local off licence and selecting 12 bottles? That's what I've always done and I usually get it cheaper than online. I'm no wine buff though, so I could be drinking vinegar for all I know! I wouldn't mind getting a few nice bottles in for Christmas. Any thoughts?

Well, the cheapest case I have found is £40 (inc p&p) - you get 12 hand selected bottles according to your tastes and (usually) next day delivery.

All the online cases I've had (from different suppliers) have been of a good quality. I like it because I got fed up with the supermarket £5 a bottle 'lucky dip'...

If you know your wine, try selecting 12 bottles from booths wines and use the voucher, it should work out cheaper?
  • I bought one of these cases from Virgin recently at an average of £5 a bottle. It was the worst 12 bottles of wine I have ever had! Argentinian, Chilean, Bolivian crap.

My experience so far is that unles you are going to venture above the £5-£6 a bottle mark, the deals in your local supermarket and off-licences usually offer better wines
Would like to say someting smart or funny here...but the fear of failure is too great
  • Couldn't disagree more, I have ordered about 15 cases over the last 6 months and they've all been top notch. OK so you may get 1 bottle out of 12 that you don't like but that's still a pretty good return.

    Maybe you were unlucky

Well if it was from Virgin you could have complained and got all your money back...

Don't think any of the supermarkets would do that?
