I had a blender for Xmas, a Delonghi one, with a glass jug and I've made soup and smoothies so far and it's fab!

However, I have also just got a moulinex food processor off freecycle so I'm going to give that a go too. I don't mind seeing as it's free!

    Good luck!

  • Hey guys,

What a great forum. Some great responses here. I don't normally post on things like this but though I'd give it a go this time, lol. I bought the Powermill Blender from WeightWorld.co.uk. It's brilliant!!!

It is so powerful I can't even describe. I use it especially for soups now and it liquidises vegetables in a matter of minutes AND heats up the soup so I can literally pour it into a bowl and eat it straight away.

It's so good! I don't know how I coped in the kitchen without it!

    Hope this helps :)

  • I would suggest that the most important thing to look for with a blender is if it will last. A lot of the cheaper blenders use plastic parts and will breakdown a lot quicker. I have been using a vitamix for about 5 years now and have never had a problem. I feel the extra money goes a long way. If anyone is interested I've made a comparison of some of the more popular blenders out there at juice and smoothie world dot com

    Cheers
  • I am struggling with the jar weakness and leaking that whonnoswho posted about on the Healthmaster 100. The blade is loose and the liquid seeps slightly out and has made the bottom outside of the jar a horrible rusty mess and it takes about 20 mins to clean the darn thing every time I use it I spent $200 on it and only used it for like 8 months and customer service pretty much told me to deal with it.
The Cuisinart dual blender/food processoris a great deal at around $100 (amazon even has the “premier” version for $105). The blender container is glass, too. The food processor is on the small side, and it isn’t quite as flexible as a regular food processor (it’s pretty high speed even on the lower settings, so it’s harder to use for chopping and such), but I thought the set was quite handy. The blender tackles ice well and the food processor is the perfect size for hummus. Given that it is a model less made for heavy duty use (at least compared to the Vitamix), it’s nice to have the option to use the food processor for some of the tougher tasks.

Also: Consumer Reports actually rates the Braun PowerMax as their top pick in blenders, and it happens to be one of the most affordable: $35 to $60 or so, depending on the seller. Good luck!
