Thanks to everyone on here for their advice and support. HR department has asked for copies of all receipts for rent, removals etc so I may have some news later this week.

In the meantime, signed on today for the first time in my life.

I'm staying in Wiltshire at the moment until I find out what I can do about the flat etc and may be entitled to Housing Benefit.

My girlfriend rents a place in Surrey and there's a possibility that I could stay with her for a while from the new year if nothing happens jobwise - would I still be entitled to benefits or am I actually better off staying in Wilts until I find something?

As far as Im aware aslong as you are looking for work you can claim JSA regardless

Yes sign on ASAP - they will get shirty with you for not having done it the day you were unemployed. They did with me and I was only two days late claiming!

What a nuisance for you - I'd definitely claim off them as if there was any question mark they should have said so and made it a conditional offer.

Unless you can wiggle out of the tenancy agreement early, I think I'd stay there jobhunting madly, because you certainly WON'T be entitled to HB if you're not living there! But I would be jobhunting madly in both Wilts and Surrey!
