If you have leftover paint

Last year Community Repaint projects collected 450,000 litres of paint with a market value of £1.75 million which would otherwise have gone to landfill or other waste treatment.

50% of this was leftover tins donated by the public (the rest was 'end'of-range' and discontinued lines donated by retailers, manufacturers and decorators).

The paint is used by worthy causes such as community groups and charities.

Well worth considering if you have a few half-full tins in the shed. :)

Are you sure this paint doesn't end up in the hands of feral youths who will then use it to daub graffiti everywhere ?

Our Council will take full paint cans or empty cans but not "half empty cans". They don't say what to do with quarter full or three-quarter full!

If you want to get rid of paint line a tray with newspaper then kitty litter & pour the paint on top. It will absorb the paint. You can then wrap in up in newspaper & throw out.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Surely donating it is more enviromentally friendly

    Donate it to whom?

This is if you have bits of paint lurking in tins you've had for years. Your not allowed to dump paint in your wheelie bin. But you can dispose of it this way.

  • I was a bit cheeky and posted on my local Gumtree last year for spare paint.

I had just moved in to my new rented home with next to nothing and it needed freshening up.

The response was really good and I managed to decorate my little boys room and my living room for (almost) free. As most people gave neutral colours, matching up was easy and I used the coloured paint to make "trendy" blocks on the feature walls.

I'm going to post again as I would like to tidy up my bedroom and kitchen.

I don't feel so cheeky now as I realise I am helping the environment. Better for it to be on my walls than on a skip!!!
