What is the differance between CSA1 and CSA2 ???
CSA1 is the original, old rules system for calculating child maintenance, which is really complicated and takes into account both parents earnings, and their partners if they have them, and their housing costs. Kellogs is the resident CSA1 expert if you need any more info.
CSA2 is the new rules system for calculating child maintenance brought in in 2003 to make things easier! Its a basic percentage based on the NRP's weekly income. 15% for one child, 20% for two children and 25% for 3 or more.
Children in NRP's household make a difference to this as does shared care - but it doesn't look into housing costs etc.0 -

I am about to request a reassess on CSA1, I have picked up from threads that if I wanted to change to CSA2, then I could do so, by closing the case and waiting 13wks(?). When I get the details of the CSA1 reassess, will it show me NRP's weekly income, so I can work out if DD would be better served by this (taking the 13 week break in payments into account - presume it doesn't get backdated?)
I am presuming it is 15% net income, not gross, he has no contact whatsoever (his choice) so no shared care, but do the CSA consider anything else apart from new children, ie living costs, pension contributions etc?
Thank you!0 -
No backdating. And you are correct to get onto CSA2 - close the case and then submit a new claim. Just to note that should there be any arrears due to the Secretary of State then you can't close the case.
The reassessment on CSA1 will show his weekly pay so you will be able to work out if you would be better off on that.
And yes, only children in the house (whether they are biologically his or not) and any travelling costs associated with seeing the child are taken into account - the latter only if he requests it.
And yes, at this time it is net pay. In the future it will be gross pay - this is to stop any NRP's whacking a load to a pension to avoid a high maintenance cost. The new system in the future will stop that - but it's years and years away so I wouldn't worry just now!!0 -

That one is more a csa guideline than fact. Some-one on here has definately managed to close the case with arrears owing to SoS and re-open another (Merry gentry?).0 -
Now that you mention it, I remember too! (small person has chicken pox so am a bit sleep deprived!
sorry OP!) I was encouraged to do it as well although as things are at a 'delicate' stage in the enforcement process I am leaving it be!!;)
The case goes clerical doesn't it?0 -
Thanks again Lizzie and Loopy, no arrears in my case, but no doubt that point will be helpful to someone else0

Yes it does. It shouldn't, but one of the major problems with the CS2 comp. is that it doesn't like to open a case using details of people who've already had a case on the old system - it confuses the poor thing! !
Thats what happened to my case- but it's being assessed in Bolton as we speak (honest
!). (PS: I'm not holding my breath!)0 -
It is supposed to be possible to close a CS1 case, wait 13 weeks and open a new CS2 case, regardless of what arrears are on the case. I have this in writing from the CSA. However, in practice it is difficult and a long slow process. 'Computer says no'! The case would probably go clerical. I have no idea what happens then - I haven't got that far yet! Would appreciate info from anyone who has done this successfully.0
