Hi just found myself a bargain and hope it helps someone else.here is the link for the cheaper model at £299
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SONY-VAIO-NR38E-1-86GHz-2GB-RAM-160GB-HDD-REFURBISHED_W0QQitemZ260330951465QQihZ016QQcategoryZ177QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
this is a great site have used it a few times,is clearance site for the high streets biggest catalogue shop and has shop you can visit in Durham.I found a Sony Vaio for £319 with £10 P&P but used a code E-bay sent me for 20% off and got it for £265!!:j.Some items are refurbished, this can mean simply damaged packaging .Laptops and electricals come with a 1 year warranty which is the same as Sony's own.Worth a look there are about 6 different laptops on here not all refurbished. Also good for Ipod shuffles and Ipod touch.
Hope this helps someone.Merry Christmas.0 -

I work for a small computer company but I will not drone on about the technical differences between various processors and memory etc.
Out of all the notebooks I have used over the years I would not recommend or buy another Fujitsu Siemens as nearly all the ones I have used have developed a fault with the power socket during light/normal use.
I would also not buy another acer as the build quality of these were not very good and they developed several faults including the back-light of the screens failing.
The others that I have used and would recommend are HP and Dell - my HP was very good and worked for a long time with no problems.
I am currently using two Dell notebooks (one at work and another at home) - one is about 3 years old and it has not had any problems at all (touch wood) and the other is a Vostro 1700 which is quite new and has Vista on it which is the only bad thing I can say about it. Both these brands IMHO offer good value for money and quality.
I realise that there will be many Sony/Toshiba/etc. users who will think I am mad not to have tried those brands - I have tried them but did not find them any better for performance or quality given the difference in cost.
Hope this helps someone.Your really can not beat a good bargain !!!0 -
