pay

Not sure where to post this, so thought i would try here, as you have helped me before, here goes. In my second job i clean a wee office, just 4 hours a week I get £80 amonth after tax, But it does not matter if it is a 4 week or 5 week month, i get the same. I have been there for 18months, and i think that if it was wrong they would have said, I mean it is an accountancy office, i don't want to say anything and look stupid, so thought i would ask you first!!!!!! :o

if its on a salary basis it would work like i.e annual salary divided by 12, if its on a weekly basis then you should get the #80 for each week you work.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • Sorry i am not very bright, just as i started they said they were changing from weekly to monthly, so what i don't understand is why i get £80 in a 4 as well as a 5 week month, sorry can you explain it again, pretend i am a 5yr old

when you agree to the job was it at £x amount per year or an hourly rate.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • It was an hourly rate

in that case they are underpaying you by four weeks each year and i would go and have a discussion with them and explain, I'm sure its a genuine mistake on their part. Good luck

This may not be the case as most monthly systems take the hourly rate, equate that to an annual salary and then divide this by 12. Can only be done when the amount worked is the same every time, but quite likely to be the case here.

Even at 4 hours a week there should be a contract, did you start the job on a weekly pay basis and then change to a monthly pay basis. If it was a monthly basis then i would agree with Treading Water and your pay will be correct.
Do they pay you cash in hand or is it a legitimate job

to check if your salary is correct, times the amount you get before tax etc by 12 then divide it by 52 this should get back to the £80 per week you should be on if it doesnt then your wagge sounds wrong,

for example, £80 x 52 = 4160 (gross annual wage for the year)
    4160/ 12 = 346.67 (monthly wage if paid £80 per week)

dont know if thats ay help for you
  • Thanks for your replys, it is a legitimate job,i have just looked at my payslip, basic is £100 then tax is £20 = £80. and it says payment period- monthly. I will try and do what racklen said
  • How many days per week do you work at this job?
