Inland Revenue Self Assessment Advice

in Cutting tax
Hi All,
Hope someone can help or give a little advice.
I'm currently ill after a serious road traffic accident back in May 2004.
When i was well enough i got all my records together as there was two years to submit and i submitted one through the Inland Revenue website and the other i had to post to my local tax office.
I now roughly owe £2.6k for two years and being ill and on Income Support since the accident i am only paying back £20 a month on an agreement until i am able to return back to work.
Everytime i get my statements im only really just paying of the interest, as the Inland Revenue will not freeze any interest, even temporary. I wish they would as this would help pay off the capital.
Is there a way to freeze interest?
Also i'm sure i have made several mistakes in submitting my tax records and i'm sure the amount i owe is too much. If i have time to sit down and go through my books with a fine tooth coomb and find i have made some big mistakes, how easy is it to solve this with the Inland Revenue?
I told the Inland Revenue that i ceased self employment in May 2004 as i have not been back to work. Am i entitled to any Tax back? And if so can this be used to reduce the amount owed.
I have worked more or less full time for the last 10 years and have never ever applied for a Tax Return. Am i entitled?
While i'm on Income Support can i get any help with this Tax Bill or any further advice?
If anyone has any good web guides to self assessment please let me know.
Thank you.
