Help re payplan?? Had a bad day..

Hi all,

I introduced myself on the board a couple of days ago and everyone was really helpful. (See thread page 3 'I am new and nervous')

I have been reading threads about paypal and wondered if they are suitable for debts of around £13,500?

I am feeling a bit down today as a tyre blow on my car and I had to borrow £30 from my parents to pay for it and I have not borrowed anything for months and have been living within my means, I know it seems a silly thing to get upset about but I wonder if I will ever get myself out of debt.

I appreciate there are folk a lot worse of than myself but hoped that you can help.

Thanks bumblebee

  • In my opinion although £13,500 is alot of money it's not a massive amount to clear!

The problem with a DMP is that your credit record will be shot to pieces for 6 years whereas you might be able to pay the money off on your own in 3 years!

Things to consider are, how much you earn, do you have your own place, how much can you afford to throw at your debts!

I'm paying off £34,000 through hard work and should only take me 4 years tops! I live at home still and don't want to be here until I'm 31 which I would be if I took a DMP because I wouldn't get a mortgage!
  • Hi there bumble bee

Why don't you do mse budget planner and see if you have a real problem or if it just lack of organisation. As far as I am aware most of the debt companies deal with people with higher debts than you but Citizens Advice would help you. Also lots of churches have debt crisis help which is free. You don't have to be a church goer and you can find out by approaching them on the E Mail.

    Good Luck

  • Aww Hun, I know what it's like when those unexpected bills come around! Don't let it get you down, it's a little blip. I'm not too sure if payplan would be the best option for you as I don't know much about it. Remember tomorrow is another day and it'll be better than today! :o)
  • Hi there,

I have my own place so don't have a lot of disposable income. Think the best thing for me to do is to make a a plan for the next year and try to put as much money as possible towards it.

Well done you though you are doing brilliantly, you have inspired me to stop moaning and start doing something about it!

£13,500 might not be a lot of money to some but if you don't have the means to pay it it is a lot. if debt is getting you down it doesn't really matter how much it is you need to get it sorted out .
I am sure there will be lots of great advice for you here

I agree that while £13500 doesn't sound a lot to some it is a lot if you're struggling or if your income isn't very high.

Payplan will deal with debts of around that much as I use them, I was unable to meet my payments though and got in a pickle that I couldn't get out of myself so in my case it was worthwhile, as others have said it may not be your best solution but it might be worth talking to them!
