TESCO Mega Sale THis Weekend?

I heard on the radio last night that the Telegraph are today reporting that Tesco are redicung 1000 lines by 50% this weekend?
Has anyone else heard the same?
I don't like the shop but went in to my local last weekend and found a load of camping stuff at 75% off, had to exercise self control and realism!
Maybe Tesco are starting to panic?
Go ASDA Go!

LONDON, Dec 11 (Reuters) - Tesco, Britain's biggest retailer, unveiled a half-price sale on about 1,000 products on Thursday, seeking to lure shoppers amid signs they are holding out for bigger post-Christmas bargains.
The supermarket group said that from Friday it would be halving prices on
products from bikes to beef and perfume to Christmas puddings, with a focus on gifts and essentials for the festive season.
'Customers are telling us that they are delaying their main Christmas purchases as they wait for bargains,' Commercial Director Richard Brasher said in a statement.
'Our Half Price Sale reassures customers that we're not making them wait.'
Tesco said a survey conducted by ICM showed that shoppers were delaying spending, with 73 percent of participants saying they had bought at least one Christmas gift, down from 78 percent the same time a year ago.
Britain's retailers, including clothing and foods group Marks & Spencer and department stores chain Debenhams , have launched big discounts and promotions in the run-up to Christmas in a bid to revive flagging consumer spending.
But research from credit information provider Experian shows that shopper
numbers have remained below levels at the same time last year.

LONDON, Dec 9 (Reuters) - British retailers Marks and Spencer and Debenhams both said on Tuesday they would offer short-term price cuts again this week, to give another boost to faltering Christmas sales.
M&S's move to a more focused approach to discounts is likely to damp shoppers' hopes of another across-the-board 20 percent discount day, of which it
has held two on recent Thursdays.
M&S said that from this Thursday it would offer champagne at half price, or 12.99 pounds ($19) a bottle, run another of its 'Dine in for 10 pounds' offers, and cut some clothing lines and homewares by up to 30 percent.
'Customers are feeling the pinch, but we all need a bit of sparkle this Christmas,' M&S chairman Stuart Rose said.
Debenhams is cutting prices by up to 20 percent from Wednesday to Friday,
repeating similar price campaigns seen since mid-November. 'This year it's been more important than ever to offer great festive value,' Debenhams deputy chief executive Michael Sharp said in a statement.

Yes I think the shops are finding it really tough this year. Although.. I thought I would see people with less shopping bags this year.. I don´t think there has been too much of a decrease to be honest. Half price food is always great because we can all stock up.. but half price IS A LOT to slash prices by.. 2 week to go though, so maybe things are getting pretty tight! Apparently Online Shopping is becoming a lot more popular, especially for Christmas this year0
