Makeup brushes: how long do they last?

I bought some good quality/paid a bit more/bought each one individually, makeup brushes (No 7 to be precise (when they had the vouchers), as the cheap multi pack stuff either fell apart, frayed etc with in a couple of months.

i have had them about a year, washed them every 2-3months, but i think it is coming to an end as the fibres from the blusher brush is ending up on my face. (average use is once a day in morning).

They aren't really designer/ott expensive - but how long are 'quality' brushes meant to last and how often are they meant to be replaced. what if i went for even more expensive (not MSing:rolleyes: ), brand say Clinique brushes - would they last longer?

any suggestions pls.
