    No 10% tax band anymore, allegedly "lowered" to 20% on everything over your allowance. Then NI contributions on top? I think!

    Could always say you thought you were employed by the taxi company but realised you are counted as self employed so need to declare your earnings? If in doubt act dumb lol.

    Assuming tax + NI of at the most 25% of £12000 would be £3k see if they will let you pay back by installments (I have 2 little kids myself and know not many parents can pay back figures like that klump sum!)
