credit rating am confused

My credit rating is either bad or i usualy get turned down becasue im not registered to vote.

I did not qualify for a loan of £1000 but how ever i got a loan for that ammount. I got a contract phone and littlewoods was just happy enough to give me a few hundred pounds worth of credit to spend on their website even though its something like 44% apr or something sky high like that.

What i dont get is why would some companys pass me on credit checks and rating but others wont?

Hilifax turned me down for the loan. For contracts they checked all network providers and the only ones that turned me down was vodafone and orange o2 tmobile and 3 passed me on credit checks.

So why would some people pass me for a credit check but not others.
Is it because i am not on the eletrol register / registered to vote? that i get turned down for loans? because not everyone fails me on my credit rating.

I know expedian does or what ever they are called.

Being on the electoral roll would vastly improve your credit score.
All companies score people differently so there's nothing you can really forcus on to make sure your score improves, but there are some things that all will look at. It is the amount of risk that a company is willing to take that will determine whether you will be offerred credit or not - and the higher the risk they are taking by offering you credit, the higher the APR will probably be.

Companies will have different levels of "acceptable" risk which is why some will not give you credit. All you can really do is make sure that all your payments are made on time to show reliability and to make sure you are registered on the electoral roll - this is the best way of verifying that you are staying at a certain address.

After that it all comes down to whether they think you will be able to manage or pay off the debt, probably weighing your current credit exposure against income and other commitments.
