debt recovery
???about 2 weeks ago a neighbour from 3 doors away came to out door with a phone number for my husband to phone ..he tried to phone it got no reply .think the neighbour had written the no. down wrong.
Today again, my neighbour from the other side came to the door with a no. for me to phone , when i phoned it was about an unpaid visa account.
My question is can these debt recovery firms actually got about their business this way? i did say to the man on the phone that i objected strongly to my neighbours being involved, as my finances & life have nothing to do with them .

I am sorry, but I cannot understand what you are on about. Are you in need of help, if so, use the common sense you were born with and explain your problem. Then perhaps one of us can help.0

Hi Cornie, This is common practice by debt recovery companies to get in contact with you if you have been avoiding discussing your debt with them. You may also find you receive letter asking you to call a number or person you do not recognise. There are different regulations regarding harrasment of debtors but I believe they have done nothing wrong.
I would advise you contact them immediately to arrange a payment plan or visit your local CAB0 -
Debt collectors (and their clients) are expected to observe the latest guidance to debt collectors issued by the Office of Fair Trading:
http://www.oft.gov.uk/News/Press+releases/2003/PN+97-03.htm
If the firm concerned are acting in breach of these guidelines, the OFT have asked to be informed - usually via your local Trading Standards department, whose address you can find from:

Everyone else appears to have understood Corinne's question.
