Look in your local free ads paper. We recently bought a Rebok exercise bike with a computer which tells you distance, calories heart rate etc. It has about 8 difficulty settings and 3 programmes that make it like you are riding up and down hills. It's all in very good condition and I paid £25 for it.
The person I bought it off had hardly used it and wanted the space.

Noooo! Don't do it!!!! it will end up in a corner of a small room as a clothes horse!!

    OK, will stop now.

Have you tried freecycle? Have seen loads of these being offered. If you can hold out 6 months, you may even get a newer one!
Also, gumtree and loot are also good for second hand bikes.

But if you are soley after a new one, I am not so sure where to look, and would guess it depends on what exactly you are looking for as different models will do different things, some are very good at counting calories while you cycle, others do not have a calorie monitor on them but can insted be ridden (is that even a word?!) standing up (which burns slightly more calories, hence there being nothing to measure it on).

Then there are ones that are all singing-all dancing-ipod/computer/mapping things that will help you accomplish the tour-de-France.

I would think about what your looking for, why you want a bike in the first place (eg what are your goals) and then get some advice from professionals as there is no point spending alot of money on something if you don't understand how to work it, if its unreliable or if it isn't helping you achieve the goals you set out to do.

    Good luck!
  • I recently purchased a Kirsty Gallacher Exercise bike from Argos. It cost about £80(now a bit cheaper owing to vat change). It's an excellant piece of kit that is fairly easy to fit together. It has a calorie counter and timer, speedometer etc.My girlfriend has started using it regularly ,so in my eyes its worth every penny!:j
