I'm starting to think the collapse will happen so quickly and the return on savings vanish so fast that I may look seriously at late 2009 rather than my Plan A of late 2010. On the other hand, I might wait for the big tax rises, Tory spending cuts, and expiry of people's mortgage deferrals. In which case 2011 sometime...
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

25% off for us, we are FTB and have been waiting for ages to buy but werent in right financial situation before now. Happy with the house, happy with the price, don't want to move in the next 10 years so hopefully should be OK.

I'm a FTB ... it takes 9 months after an STR for a lender to consider one an FTB. And I am petrified at the thought of buying my next house purely because of the responsibility that comes with it. The maintenance, everything being always down to you, having to deal with everything, do everything, pay for everything, worry about everything. I am really not looking forward to the whole roller-coaster ride that is property ownership.

I know people have their own reasons for wanting to buy, but I don't understand why people still want to buy when prices are dropping so fast - you'll end up losing thousands of pounds just during the buying process in depreciation, and job security will be a real issue next year.......

I'm obliged to point this out as this is a money saving site :D

12 grand? I'd check out the auctions in a few years when prices have bottomed out. Maybe you can ask about repos.
