default notice on loan

hi, i recently got married and moved home in the space of a month and a bit. a couple of days ago i recieved a letter from nationwide to say they have issued me with a default notice as i have missed two payments on my loan. i phoned straight away to clear the outstanding amount of £145 though when i asked if the notice will now be removed they said no. they said because i didnt contact them the first missed payment and then a second happened then it is policy to issue a default notice. i just think for 2 missed payments, a default that stays on my record for 6 years is a little over the top. they said the only way that it maybe lifted is if i pay the full £4000 straight off or if its found to be that there was i mistake on their behalf. hjas any1 got any advice as to how i can get rid of this as being newly married with a baby boy we wanted to get a mortgage soon and with a default that just aint gonna happen.

If you did as you say then I can't see that you have any grounds to complain. Yes you responded to clear the arrears but there was presumably a full month between the first and second missed payment.
